The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a well-known mystery game that got released in 2014, got re-made in 2015 and also appeared on PlayStation 4 soon after. Now, two and a half years later, the game will finally be released for Xbox One on January 19th and it brings its own exclusive mode.
So, what’s the story of the game again? You will be playing as Paul Prospero who is an occult-minded detective. Because of this, he receives a letter from Ethan Carter who is in danger. Soon after, Ethan is killed and you have to find out what is happening, as he is not the only victim. However, because the story is inspired by horror fiction Paul has some interesting supernatural abilities, such as talking to the dead.
As you could read above the release for PC and PlayStation 4 happened a while ago. Because of this, Xbox One will have a special game mode to make up for the long wait, as well as the ability to play the game on 4k resolution. The new mode, named Free Roaming allows players to walk around Red Creek Valley without the blood and murder. This makes it a beautiful perspective of the game for players who just want to enjoy the setting of the game.
As Xbox had to wait so long, the free roaming will stay an exclusive feature for a while. Yet, the developers mentioned they don’t mind adding the feature for PS4 and PC version if people demand it. However, as The Astronauts are just a small team, it will take a lot of hard work and time before we will see the feature on all versions.
”I am saying all this just to explain it’s not like the Free Roam-enhanced PS4 and PC versions are locked behind a key, just waiting to be released one day. Some serious work needs to be put in first in order to make them happen.”
The game is available for pre-order on the Xbox One store and has a price of 20 dollars. It surely has been a long wait for the Xbox players, but the exclusive feature will surely ease the pain.
