After the end of the Resident Evil film series with actress Milla Jovovich, the shooting for the Resident Evil reboot has now ended. In addition, the start date for the cinemas was announced.
That’s going on: The film adaptation of the Resident Evil franchise with Milla Jovovich in the lead role ended with the part “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” released in 2016. However, the total of six parts was ultimately based only very vaguely on the video game template and developed more and more into action films. Therefore, many fans of the video games were hoping for a film adaptation that is much more oriented towards the games. The prayers were finally answered and Constantin Film announced in mid-2017 that a Resident Evil reboot was being planned.
What to expect: In the course of this, it was already announced that the reboot will again feel much more connected to its survival horror roots. Historically, it should also be based on the first two parts of the video game series. Johannes Roberts is in charge of the reboot. In his vita, you can find almost exclusively horror films and series. In any case, these are all signs that the reboot will say goodbye to the action division and return to its roots.
When does Resident Evil start in theaters?
The makeup artist company Applied Arts FX Studio published a picture of the zombies in the reboot via Instagram and confirmed that the filming was completed.
The cinema release is planned for September 9th. So now the hot phase of post-production begins, which hopefully does not have to experience any major delays due to the current Covid 19 situation.
Back to the “evil” roots
This is how the reboot is returning to the roots: In contrast to the previous Resident Evil series, in which, for example, a completely new character was created with Alice, all kinds of familiar faces appear in the reboot. Whether Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, or William Birkin, almost everything of rank and name appears in the film and is sometimes embodied by very well-known actors.
This is the cast: Claire Redfield is played by Kaya Scodelario, who you may know from “Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge” or the “Maze Runner” films. Hannah John-Kamen, who plays Jill Valentin in Resident Evil Reboot, was seen in “Ready Player One” or “Ant-Man and the Wasp”. As you can see, a number of well-known big names on the big screen will demonstrate their skills in the reboot. Here is a small list of the most famous figures.
- Claire Redfield – Kaya Scodelario
- Chris Redfield – Robbie Amell
- Leon Kennedy – Avan Jogia
- Jill Valentine – Hannah John-Kamen
- Albert Wesker – Tom Hopper
- William Birkin – Neal McDonough
- Ada Wong – Lily Gao
- Chief Brian Irons – Donal Logue
- Richard Aiken – Chad Rook
- Lisa Trevor – Marina Mazepa
In view of the cast, we’re definitely very excited. With Johannes Roberts, there is also someone behind the camera who knows something about the horror craft. What do you think? Could it really be a Resident Evil film this time that will make video game fans happy? Feel free to tell us in the comments.
