A few days ago the game studio Creepy Jar announced their first game called Green Hell. In this psychological survival game, you end up in the Amazonian rainforest where you not only have to fight your own mind but also the jungle itself.
All by yourself
In Green Hell, you are left alone in the jungle. Without equipment and no sign of help from the outside you quickly need to learn how to adapt to the situation. However, you are not truly alone as a familiar voice comes out of the radio, which is the only item you own. Besides needing to survive, the endless jungle will unveil the secrets on how you ended up there in the first place.
Green Hell’s story emphasizes psychological aspects of survival in extreme conditions. The player faces a ruthless situation, isolated, and fighting to survive another day. To unveil the truth the player will have to fight the hardest battle they will ever fight – the fight against themselves, their weaknesses and fears.
To survive you will need to collect resources to craft tools or build certain camp buildings. Because the jungle has a living fauna, which keeps changing, you need to gather, hunt or crop your own food. As danger is anywhere the developers added an interesting feature to their game. The Body inspection mode lets you check your body parts to see if you don’t have any wounds or parasites on your body. Failing to do so, might even lead to your death as this is the only way to see your injuries.
To keep track of everything you learn, your character has a journal with him. In here treatments and crafting recipes are kept. In addition, the watch shows your physical condition. However, both the physical and psychological bars are also a part of the interface.
While Green Hell doesn’t have a specific release date yet, its planned for Steam this summer. Yet, the game will first be released as an Early Access title to add more content and to gather feedback before the actual release 3 months later.
